If you need Internet advice, you are in good hands. Wombat Web is run by Jason Manger. Jason is a best-selling
Internet book author and journalist, software engineer and teacher.
In the Beginning...
When Jason started Wombat Web, there were no graphical web browsers and no advertising for Internet-related skills in the national press, indeed
Jason was the first person to advertise his Internet skills in the UK's Sunday Times newspaper, back in 1989. These were the days when companies did
not even know what a "web site" was. At this time the "Web" was textual, and tools such as Gopher and WAIS (Wide Area Index Search) were popular.
Websites were accessed using a text-based, command-driven interface, as of course was all of the Internet.
Working full-time in the Internet industry since 1993, Jason has designed and implemented a wide range of technical solutions for small business
enterprises and blue chips alike, both working as a freelancer and for a range of London web design agencies and Internet Service Providers. Jason
has coded the gamut of web applications, ranging from the banal to the ultra-sophisticated. An all-rounder, Jason can hand-code just about any
application from memory, and often without any detailed specification.
The Author
In the early 1990's, starting during his postgraduate studies, Jason started to author many of the first European Internet books about the Internet
and Web development. These have now been translated into over seven languages, including Russian, Hebrew and Japanese. Jason was also a regular
contributor to many of the magazines and journals of the day, as well as National newspapers and specialist e-zines.
JAVASCRIPT ESSENTIALS The definitive guide (541+ pages) to
Javascripting. This book is based on JavaScript API version 1.0, which is compatible with
all Netscape/Microsoft versions, even today. The JavaScript syntax (now known as ECMAScript) is now
used in environments including: WMLScript (Wireless Application Protocol), CFMLScript (Adobe ColdFusion), and
Macromedia's ActionScript scripting language.
The emphasis in this book is on source-code. Coverage includes: LiveConnect,
which allows Java applets and JavaScript programs to communicate with each other, dynamic
images, mouse events, plug-in detection, in-line HTML attribute evaluation, dynamic HTML
generation, and much more besides. Hundreds of code examples give the reader a thorough
insight into this popular language and its syntax.
ESSENTIAL JAVA
A guide to the Java and JavaScript languages. Equal coverage of both technologies is provided,
and the contents include: Objects, Properties, Event programming, JavaScript and HTML forms, Designing GUIs with Java's AWT
library, Threads, Java Streams, Java & JavaScript Resources.
Essential Java was awarded a Book of the Month award by PC MAGAZINE, who said: "This is a clear,
intelligently written book, packed with practical examples and highlighted tips both on Java and
Netscape".
